Edward Bent has over 30 years experience of the ornamental horticultural sector. He has an honours degree in Botany (Hull University), Diploma of education, QTS (Qualified Teacher Status – biology) and Celta certificate for English. Extensive experience in biology and horticulture has led to a horizonal career profile developed between research, biology teaching, international trade development and writing, in various countries and climates. He engaged as free-lance, involved in technical and marketing support (consultancy and collaboration) for companies and trade exhibitions in the areas of: feasibility studies, information gathering, writing, translation, business and professional exchange, organizing inward/outward missions and introducing new plant varities, especially focused on Italy, UK and China. This experience qualifies Edward to fully contextualize and distill complex technical arguments in a divulgative journalistic style or with a marketing and promotional scope. Prior to teaching and transferring to Italy in 1986, Edward was one of the founding directors of Floranova Ltd, a plant breeding company, following earlier experience working for the Scottish Horticultural Research Institute. Edward has had published many feature articles in the professional trade press for the ornamental horticultural sector in countries, including: China, Denmark, France, Germany, England, Italy, Holland, Spain, USA. Writing books on commission started in 1997, extending between 2000 and 2002 to four editions co-authored by Aldo Colombo as part of a successful series on garden plants for De Vecchi Editore, Milan. His book ‘Wild Flowers: La Cultura della Biodiversità’ Sestante Edizioni 2011 was sponsored by the Lombardy Region’s department of greenery, parks & gardens. In 2012/2013, Edward started the HORTCOM blog addressed to horticultural innovation.His book, holistic review of silicon in agriculture, ‘Silicon Solutions’  Sestante Edizioni, 2014, was sponsored by silicon supply companies and an experimental station.

Aldo Colombo si è laureato in Scienze Agrarie a Milano nel 1979, con pieni voti e lode. Opera nel settore del florovivaismo, e ha ormai quasi 40 anni di esperienza nel settore. Dopo aver lavorato in una delle più importanti aziende di import-export di fiori e piante a Milano, è stato a lungo prima redattore, poi direttore ed editore di una delle principali riviste professionali in Italia. Ora collabora come freelance con articoli su diverse riviste professionali e amatoriali italiane ed europee e svolge attività di consulenza per aziende e mercati del settore. Ha viaggiato per lavoro (fiere, manifestazioni, visite aziendali e in giardini botanici e storici) in: Olanda, Belgio, Germania, Danimarca, Francia, Inghilterra, Spagna, Svizzera, Portogallo, Finlandia, Norvegia, Polonia, Ungheria, Cechia, Lituania, Turchia, Israele, Stati Uniti, Ecuador. Ha guidato in diverse occasioni gruppi di vivaisti statunitensi in Italia e un gruppo di vivaisti italiani negli Stati Uniti, nonché gruppi di giornalisti esteri in Italia. Ha sviluppato gli aspetti botanici di app per la mappatura di giardini storici e botanici e di parchi. È autore di una quindicina di libri a soggetto botanico, all’inizio quattro in collaborazione con Edward Bent, gli altri da solo. Ha spesso operato come guida botanica in parchi, giardini e orti botanici e può tenere conferenze e interventi su numerosi soggetti relativi a piante e fiori, disponendo di un archivio fotografico di tutto rispetto.

This blog attempts to place its selection of technical innovations in a more holistic context presenting information at a medium level level, aiming at a practical, interrogative approach. It aims to establish a community of professional operators, an instrument to promote innovation in horticulture (and agriculture), a platform to create links and partnerships to promote the circulation of of information on innovative products, markets, services and structures.
